Angling is a great sport to participate and you need to get familiar with the rules of the game. Make it a point never to take an action that will hurt the other anglers around yo or damage the environment. Fishing is a very ancient practice and as far as recorded history shows us, it has been around more than 10,000 years ago. Technological advances may have increased the chances of catching fish but many of the tried and tested rules still apply.

It is crucial to observe good angling habits as they are necessary to ensure the environment will be preserved for future generations. Have the decency to learn to leave the badly contaminated spots alone, and do to add to the existing damage. Do not upset the natural balance the ecosystem so do whatever you can to help maintain the environment so that they will be enjoyed by the future generations, it is good to help preserve the environment. This can be achieved simply by practicing good angling habits. Do not leave any trash behind when your fishing day has come to an end, always carry a bag to place it in. There are dumping stations provided use it. It doesn't take a genius to figure out how this little act can go a long way in preserving the environment.

As you fish, always use the correct type of bait and fishing gear, remembering that particular areas only allow certain bait and gear. There are restrictions around the number and type of fish you can keep. Do not wait until you have arrived to check for these restrictions. For each destination you plan to visit, get to know the rules and restrictions. If your plans include the use of a boat, research to see what kinds of watercraft are allowed where you are going to fish.

Many places have some restrictions and it is very likely you would be prosecuted if you fish there in defiance of these restrictions. Some reasons include the protection of certain wildlife, the proper care of vegetation, and the safety of you and others who want to fish. Safety is the number one priority in any form of hunting excursions, so wear your life jacket and make absolutely sure that your passengers in your boat wear their life jackets too.

When removing bait, be very careful. Do not make the stupid mistake of fishing in unauthorized waterways. When you are making arrangements for this trip remember to pack necessary items like plenty of fresh water, and basic safety items such as maps, flashlights and cell-phones.

Today, fishing is a favorite past time of Americans, Canadian and Europeans. Do everything you can to help make fishing a part of the activity in the next century. Make it a rule to find ways to protect and preserve the environment around you and learn as much as is possible to become a better angler.

by Dane Masters

One of the first things you must do to plan a great fishing trip is to identify your priorities. You need to be more specific than just saying you want great fishing. Great fishing may mean different things to each person in your fishing party.

One person will be happy by trapping 20 fish per day, while another may anticipate 30 fish per hour. Thus it is better that you plan before you venture.

Let's take a look at some of the most important things to consider when deciding where to go on your fishing trip.

What type of fish do you want to catch?

To some this question may be a little barefaced, it is something that does need to be decided. One person may want to fish for walleye and northern pike, while others may prefer bass. Many northern lakes are too cold for bass, so the bass fisherman in the group may be sorely let down if this was the location you chose.

Is your aim for tons of action, or even trophy fish?

Some anglers simply enjoy catching lots of fish (most any size) with the hope of getting a few big ones. Other fishermen would rather give up catching a large quantity of fish for a better chance at catching the biggest fish they can find. You need to decide which is more important to your fishing group... lots of fish that maybe aren't the biggest or fewer fish but a greater chance of a really big one.

It has to be observed that there are not of places where you can do both that is trap lots of fish and get some big ones. But, these are more distant and costly lodges and are not forever possible for many fishing groups.

How will you catch your fish?

Do you like to troll? Or drift? Fish in streams? Deep water fish?

There have been people who have trolled in 60 foot waters thinking the fish were near the surface. There is not a great chance to catch fish this way at all. Be sure to know what your group's preferences are and if the lake can provide it.

Amount you are ready to spend for the fishing trip?

The price you're willing to pay will have a great impact on the type of fishing trip you'll have.

Be naturalistic. Plan the amount you actually want to spend? Are you comfy in a camp or roofing paper hut on a lake with big fishing?

Or would you prefer staying at a more upscale fishing lodge?

Do you want to cook for yourself... or do you want the fishing camp to do the cooking?

And what about shower facilities? Are you willing to use a community shower or do you want a private shower and bath in your own cabin. Gentlemen, if you're taking your spouse on this trip, make absolutely sure you consider this one! If you don't, it could spoil an otherwise great trip.

Other considerations are how long the trip will be and the type of fish you are looking to catch. A trip to a fishing lodge on a lake with pan fish and bass will likely be much cheaper that a trip to Alaska or Northern Canada for arctic char.

In conclusion, if you want a memorable fishing trip, begin planning these aspects of your trip. If done correctly, you could have a truly amazing fishing experience.

It differs from one person to the other. Here are some points to consider. One of the important considerations is how to reach the water. Though not among the most trusted water vehicles, the American Indians used canoes and is one of the oldest recorded water transports. Canoes are good to reach small nooks and crevices in water where fish remain in hiding, but it is important to remember that canoes are unstable as a rule and can not face up to strong winds.

Because you need to stand up to cast, a motor-less rowboat is the best. Row your boat to reach your fishing spot, but keep a trolling motor with you when you intent to move further away into the water. Pleasure boats with outboards are good for fishing.

Remember to choose the right type of footwear if you are going fishing by the side of a lake. Hip boots are the most practical for this as they can be rolled down if you? Stream wading can be done using hip boots, though chest and hip waders are conventionally used. Go for loose chest and hip waders.

A suitable jacket must be worn. When boat fishing or having to wade through shallow water, a longer jacket would be necessary. To prevent the bottom portion of long jackets getting drenched in water while using chest waders, use short jackets in stead. Carrying lure and other accessories become convenient when you buy a jacket which has lots of pockets. Another beneficial accessory is a hat with a visor.

The avid angler has three stashes of lure and tackle-box containers: The first stash is for the home stockpile, the second and larger one for the boat, and a third stash is for the car. That way, you will always be covered in the event of a loss or other mishap. All supplies must be purchased in large quantities at the start of the season, so that you are fully prepared, even when you fish at night.

To better your fishing experience it is always a good idea to be equipped with the right gear and accessories. There is nothing as distressing as finding that there is a vital piece of equipment that is missing, just when a prize catch is nearing you. Preparation is among the most important aspects of fishing, so make sure that you have all of the gear you need to have the best experience of your life.

As the cold off-season months approach, boat owners must decide how they are going to store their craft. In addition to deciding where to store your boat, you also have to know how to properly winterize your boat.

by Dane Masters

As the cold off-season months approach, boat owners must decide how they are going to store their craft. In addition to deciding where to store your boat, you also have to know how to properly winterize your boat.

When one lives in a severely cold climate, it is obvious that you must leave your boat out of the water during this time. The first option would be to keep the boat indoors where it is dry, or whether to gamble and store it outside.

If you make use of an outboard motor then you can lay up the motor indoors and the boat outdoors. This is a simple solution. But if you think to stow your craft outside and your boat has an inboard engine, then you must take extra considerations along with your decision.

It is perfectly safe to store your boat out of doors during the cold months, even if you experience low temperatures and significant snowfall. However, if temperatures tend to fall in the minus zero range for long periods, it may be difficult to avoid damage.

Freezing can damage engines and other parts, resulting in costly repairs that must be taken care of in the spring. Thus, most of us can use outdoor boat storage, but owners living in extreme climates probably want to consider another solution.

When you store your craft outdoor then make sure that you check the manufacturer's suggestions when winterizing your boat. Also seek the advice of your dealer in case of any doubts. Use only those products for winterizing process which is approved by the manufacturer and if you use any other products your boat warranty may become void.

Engines will have to be drained with special oils and coolants. Any susceptible or costly tool which is detachable should be detached and stored indoors. Cover the boat fully with a hard-wearing tarp. Do not use cheap plastic covers for this purpose. Get heavy-duty canvas and also big ones which might cover boat fully and from all sides.

When warmer weather arrives, promptly uncover your boat and fully inspect it for any damage. Pay particular attention to any signs of rot or animal intrusion, and cracks due to the cold. Have any damage repaired as soon as possible, and certainly before putting the boat into the water.

If you follow manufacturer's instructions for outdoor boat storage, cover your craft with a high-quality tarp, and regularly check on the boat during the winter, you will have no problems and be on the water at the first sign of spring.

by Andrew Muigai

Sport fishing in Tanzania inland is increasingly becoming one of the most popular leisure activities among tourists. Even though fishing in Tanzania national parks and game reserves is prohibited, the country's many freshwater lakes and rivers, which occupy more than 6 percent of Tanzania's total area, offer plenty of sport fishing opportunities.

Tanzania rivers and their tributaries host plenty of fish especially during and immediately after the rainy seasons. It is therefore most advisable that you take your sports fishing safari after the short rains in November and December, or after the long rains in April and May. The best fishing spots in Tanzania include Mwanza, Musoma, Rufiji River, and Lake Tanganyika.

For the sports fishing safari enthusiast looking for the best fishing experience in Tanzania, there are a number of Tanzania tour and safari companies that organize fishing safaris. At the Lake Victoria ports of Mwanza and Musoma, you can also find friendly boatmen who will easily let you go with them on their daily fishing trips. Lake Victoria is Africa's largest lake and hosts diverse tropical freshwater fish species that are often exported to aquariums the world over.

Mwanza, the southern port of Lake Victoria, is a very popular fishing safari destination in Tanzania. The port is home to huge Nile Perch and Tilapia and it one of the best places to get started. The port city is also the cultural centre of Sukuma, the largest ethnic group in Tanzania.

Musoma, another popular fishing safari destination, is on the Eastern shores of Lake Victoria, near the border with Kenya. You can catch plenty of Nile perch (Sangara or Chengu in the local dialect) in Musoma. In this port town, you will also find lots of boats that take visitors across Lake Victoria-the world's largest tropical lake and second largest freshwater lake by surface area. Lake Victoria has a 3440 km shoreline and hosts over 3000 islands, many of them inhabited.

Lake Tanganyika is another popular fishing safari destination in Tanzania. Stretching across four countries - Burundi, DRC, Zambia, and Tanzania - lake Tanganyika is the world's second largest freshwater lake by volume after lake Baikal in Siberia. The lake is home to over 350 fish species , including the Goliath Tiger Fish and the Nile Perch. Lake Tanganyika has over 2000 plant and animal species, of which 600 are not found anywhere else in the world.

The largest river in Tanzania, Rufiji River, provides opportunity for both salty water and freshwater fishing. The 21 lakes in the Rufiji floodplain area, plus the hundreds of ponds and creeks are the grounds for freshwater fishing. During the annual floods, these lakes and creeks fill up and yield good fish catches. Saltwater fishing takes place at the sandbanks off the Rufiji Delta near the coast, where good conditions exist for prawn fishing.

Fly fishing in Tanzania's rivers and streams is also becoming a favorite activity for visitors to Tanzania.

The gold mines of Oregon were mined by the Chinese in the 1800's and a small town of John Day was the home to many of them.

by Patricia Calloway

The gold mines of Oregon were mined by the Chinese in the 1800's and a small town of John Day was the home to many of them.

Kam Wah Chung Trading Post was the central gathering place for the miners at the end of a long day. Here they could compare their day with other miners, get treated for the ailments they had with Doc Hay providing the herbs necessary to resolve their problems. With a supply of over 500 herbs Doc Hay was able to provide nearly everything known to treat many problems for the miners. The herbs were so precious that they were kept in the apothecary which was secured with iron bars over the windows.

Volcanic tuff which was quarried locally provided the foundation and first level of the building while the second story was built using pine wood planking. With time the building became worn and weathered, but the history connected to the building teaches us about the life and times of the Chinese workers in the 1800's in small John Day.

Two men, Doc Hay and Lung On owned the building but were not selfish with their home, they opened the doors to relatives, travelers and indigent workers that needed shelter for a time. In the 1940's this ceased, times had changed.

Today the Kam Wah Chung Museum shares the wealth of history about Oregon and the Chinese population by displaying Chinese art work, the tour of the building with its 7 different rooms including the bunkhouse, two bedrooms, the general store area, the kitchen, stockroom, herb room and medical room. Not a lot of space to house the many people that crossed its threshold but still a home, where care was given and history created.

Open seven days a week from May 1 - September 30 you can visit the Museum from 9 - 5 where questions can be answered and tours given.

Located on NW 1st Ave. in John Day, Oregon this Museum will take you on a trip through history. They would love to have you visit so mark it on your route.

If you haven't tried Winter Crappie fishing, you're missing out on one of the most productive and reliable times to catch this tasty panfish. Finding Crappie during the Winter months is the hard part. But with a fish finder, a little knowledge and some time on your favorite body of water, you can be catching Crappie when other anglers are at home in front of the fireplace.

Also, once you find the pattern on a given body of water, Winter Crappie will normally hold that same pattern for many days, sometimes weeks. Of course, a storm front may shut them down for a day or so, but generally they'll come right back, hungry as ever!

In most lakes at this time of year, Crappie can almost always be found hanging around deep brush on submerged river or creek channels. Vertical bluff-type structure, and manmade brushpiles in deep water are also excellent areas to find Winter Crappie.

It's true that Winter Crappie spend most of their time hanging around brush located along deep drop offs. But not always. Several days of warmer than normal weather can cause Crappie to move up to within a foot or so of the surface. It may also cause them to leave their deep water hangouts and move across shallow flats.

Make sure you use the right tackle for Winter Crappie fishing.

Winter Crappie fishing requires you to downsize your tackle. The same tackle you used back in the Summer and Spring will not be as effective in Winter. Light and Ultralight rods in the 6 to 7 foot range, small minnows or 1/32 ounce jigs and four pound test line are the norm. Crappie become sluggish and finicky in the Winter, and they won't chase bait. In fact, they want the bait right in front of their mouth during most of the Winter.

I like to use a light graphite spinning rod, four pound test line and small tube jigs or minnows to locate deep water Crappie holding in brush. My set up includes a 3/8ths weight tied to the bottom of my line with two drops space about 12 to 18 inches apart above the weight. This way, I'm able to "feel" my way around those deep brush piles.

My other Winter Crappie fishing gear includes tiny ice fishings jigs or spoons, jigs in the 1/32 or 1/64 ounce range and 2 to 4 pound test line. I know what you're thinking. But Winter Crappie do not put up much of a fight and you should be able to horse any Crappie from a brush pile with this setup. Sure, you'll lose a few, but you'll catch more by downsizing than you will by using heavy rods, lines and baits.

Cold Crappie won't chase down bait during the Winter. This means you must put your offering in front of their nose and leave it there. In fact, many times I've had more success by not imparting any motion with my jig. Make it easy for the Crappie to eat your bait. This isn't rocket science, so don't get all technical with your presentation. Just hold it in front of them, they'll bite it!

It seems as though humans are naturally water creatures at heart. We migrate south in winter to warm ourselves in the ocean tide, and then head north to the cool lakes in summer. Water is good for our bodies, our souls and our spirits.

We are, after all, land creatures. So, we need water vessels to provide all of this aquatic fun. Whether crashing through the waves in a speedboat or floating on a rubber raft, it's just plain fun to spend time on the water. Fun is fun, but safety should always come first. Water can kill, and must be treated with respect. Be smart and safe regardless of how you're spending your time on the water.

Wear a Floatation Device

Every wise boater prepares for the unexpected. A quick turn to the weather can bring on choppy conditions, high waves and hard rains. Even the most experienced boaters can find the adventures cut short when the weather causes capsize or collision. No one is invincible, particularly where nature is concerned. Everyone who is present on a boat, including the strongest swimmers, must wear a floatation device. Small and young children are at the biggest risk of drowning or injury. Wearing a floatation device isn't only smart, but it's the law in many places. Some states and provinces have regulations in place that require everyone on board to wear a floatation device.

Set a Course for Safety

Experience boaters and nautical novices alike should taking boating safety courses. Most areas offer free courses, and the lessons can usually be completed in a day or two. Enroll yourself, and your entire family. Kids are never too young to learn about boat safety. If you have trouble finding safety courses in your city, see what you can find online. The Internet is a great resource for all types of courses and training programs.

Keep Booze off the Boat

Drinking and boating is every bit as dangerous, and just as illegal, as drinking and driving. You're taking the lives of others in your hands when you're operating any type of watercraft, and you need to stay alert at all times. Alcohol, drugs and even certain prescription medications will dull your reflexes and impair your judgment. In most areas, the waterways are governed by the same impairment laws that are imposed upon automobile drivers.

Use Common Sense

The cornerstone of boat safety is sensibility. You must know your limits and be sure that you can make educated decisions in a split second. Know how to react if another boat veers suddenly toward you. Know what to do if a friend falls from his water skis and disappears from sight. You'll need to make judgment calls, so understand the potential dangers and learn how to react.

Be Respectful

You expect other boaters to respect you, and you must do the same for them. Give others plenty of room to share the waters. Make it easy for other boaters to see you, day and night. Mind the local water rules and regulations, including the speed limit. Remember to have respect for your passengers and yourself. Showing off is no excuse for poor respect and dangerous behavior.

Care for Your Craft

Boat safety begins with the boat, so make sure that yours is in proper working condition. Check your craft often, and make sure that all components are in working order and meet boat safety requirements. Keeping a maintenance record of your boat is just as important as keeping one for your car. Take your boat and motor for regular maintenance, and learn how to perform emergency maintenance in the event of an accident or breakdown on the water.

Boating can mean anything from a fun kayaking trip, to an exhilarating afternoon of extreme water skiing, to a relaxing afternoon of fishing. However you choose to spend your time on the water, just remember to make boat safety your first priority.

Many anglers fish without ever knowing how their baits actually induce fish to behave the way they do; in taking bait and hook into their mouths. But if you knew better how to achieve this effect in practice, and how to manipulate it more appropriately at times, do you think this would increase your chances of bites and fish landed? If so, then read on!

Confidence in a bag, (or bottle) when it come to bait is one of great personal opinions for every angler, because the truth is everyone has different experiences even on the same baits, at different waters, and many anglers with put down other baits even though they have never even used them, which is a tad bit short-sighted perhaps. Confidence mostly comes from perceptions in fishing, and certainly not from first-hand experience. But it is first-hand personal experience that is the only thing you can truly trust as fact, but I do not mean by this that claims about commercial bait quality and effectiveness are not true.

But why would you need to know anything about bait; maybe you catch your share, maybe you know a range of baits that have worked on your waters previously that you can turn to. Well if you know little about carp vital senses and how to manipulate them to induce more takes you are missing out; big-time and it's like using putting back on the shelf a flavour with 10 times the potency of anther because the packaging is less flashy, and choosing another flavour that you like the smell of, never realising how much it lacks compared to the other flavour... For instance, many anglers just think flavours are solvent based or natural, or nature-identical and pretty much all the same, but the actual definition of flavours in fishing are extremely diverse and some flavours like chilli compounds even stimulate carp senses more powerfully than usual pulling fish to your swim from ranges many other flavours fail to.

Science is tricky and seemingly irrelevant for many anglers until they realise the enormous significance that chemicals change in solution with water and many substances are simply not the same in water as air, and fish are experiencing different chemicals all over their bodies and not just on the tongue like humans. Imagine garlic on the tongue; it is mixed with air and saliva, but in mixed just water, garlic produces different compounds and the tastes and smells we experience as humans will be different ones that carp experience. This means that the flavours or pungent smells we might imagine impact on the fish may well not be present in the same form at all, and this might mean that something else is triggering a response from carp, even an internal one where something in garlic is acting to produce thermogenic (metabolism and digestion speeding-up effects for example,) and even have very potent antioxidant and antimicrobial impacts etc.

Carp are turned-on by far more than a vanilla or strawberry flavour combination and in fact often these will provide no response at all as they are not true feeding triggers as such, but some bait substances compensate for this by affecting carp in far more profound ways internally! Science is hard right; well I did an easy test on carp baits today by eating wheat-free biscuits and a wheat free doughnut; all done in interests of science and in the best possible taste! Sometimes there are substances used in foods and baits which are naturally there or added deliberately which induce you brain create the sensation of pleasure so you enjoy them more...

Now when I ate these foods, the bit that made me want another wheat-based doughnut or biscuit after eating the first one had disappeared from the wheat-free products, (and what a surprise and disappointment that was!) This meant that something beyond just taste and smell impacts was involved. Something that effected the release of those feel-good hormones in the brain were gone and I really noticed the difference!

If you apply this to fishing, it is like using a bait with a flavour and sweetener, and fishing next to it a bait with the same ingredients exactly, but with that extra vital brain chemical releasing impact. Which food or bait will catch more fish and which might you go for preferentially?! As it is your brain the makes the decision for your body you may have no choice and you may have noticed that so many people over-eat wheat-based foods and store-up fat as a result despite this being far from a healthy thing to do; it's natural drug-induced behaviour for sure, even though certain emotions are frequently still involved!

When you look, you won't believe how hard it is to get away from wheat in your diet as it is exploited so much in modern foods to get you to eat more and buy more in regular, habitual ways! Even in carp fishing it is recognised that fish eating baits without supplemental nutritional foods can drop weight as with fish addicted to tiger nuts or peanuts alone, so using such things as part of your nutritional bait is a massive edge. You might not call it manipulating carp behaviours in your favour, or call it creating addictive or habit-forming behaviours, but it works in practice; you are your own guinea-pig every day! These edges are supplied to you by the bait secrets ebooks author with more experience of eating healthy biscuits and doughnuts (probably,) than any other author!

Fly in fishing trips have become one of the most preferred vacations for fishing enthusiasts because of the excitement that it brings. If you want to have the experience of a lifetime and a catch like no other, then British Columbia, Canada is where you want to plan your next trip.

With marine life of all sorts the coastal waters of British Columbia have all five species of the Pacific Salmon Chinook (Kings), Coho (Silvers), Chum, Pink and Sockeye. The trophy salmon are one of the biggest reasons why people travel to British Colombia from all over the world to fish. Making your dream vacation come true is only a matter of planning it well. Keep in mind the essentials and you're sure to remember the trip for years to come.

I always recommend if at all possible to the most remote area possible. Preferably one that is fly-in only so it provides the most isolated and undisturbed environment possible. There are several fly-in only fishing lodges in BC that would be a great choice.

Even with waters that are teeming with fish, you will still want to know where the best fishing spots in the area are. It may even be better if you have someone with you who knows the area well. Depending on the region the average Chinook ranges from 25 to 35 lb and some places like Rivers Inlet have seen Chinooks caught as high as 70lb!

Although British Columbia's waters are abundant with aquatic life it is till best to know where the good fishing spots are. From experience I can tell you that the best salmon fishing in BC is at Rivers Inlet which is close to Port Hardy.

Equipment and transportation can be very important if you will be fishing in locations that are not easily accessible. Charter boats, planes and even kayaks can be hired to take you to your fishing destination. It's a good idea to make a reservation if you are coming during the peak seasons.

Know the rules and regulations that the area you are fishing in has. Like other provinces in Canada British Columbia has its own set of rules and regulations which includes getting licenses and conservation stamps. These are available almost anywhere including lodges, resorts and selected department stores.

At the end of the day you'll want a good place to stay and share your days adventures. Choose a resort or lodge that is fully equipped with everything that you need be sure that your stay is more comfortable. Reservations are important for this as well, I recommend you book your lodge early since you cannot tell what the influx of guests will be like.
